Animal Guardian
The lava made me,
the weather shaped me,
then Coyote came to me
and pricked up my ears.
By day I send my shadow
out walking, so people
know I exist. By night
I howl at the moon,
and old souls howl back.
Someday I will go to them.
But for now, I comfort
the hunted ones.
When fear and death hover,
I help them remember
that they will live forever.
