Aces & Spades
Bombay Beach
Like a trailer for a bad B movie,
Bombay Beach can make you woozy.
Even when the sea rose high,
the tiny town just wouldnít die.
Its feisty citizens stood firm
and got a grant to raise a berm,
a bit of engineered persistence
that keeps the sea at a safe distance.
If you drive past the old Ski Inn
and crest the berm, youíll be amid
the shoreline digs that had to goó
an offering to the god of woe.
You donít need the manor borna
to own this piece of California,
which proves the sea's a twisted teaseró
you canít lose, but you canít win, either.
